Magnussen will join Commonwealth Games backstroke silver medallist Bradley Woodward and breaststroke bronze medallist Matt Wilson at the all-day clinic in January, at Speers Point Swim Centre. Council’s leisure services manager Brad Sutton said learning first-hand from the champion trio was an invaluable opportunity for talented young swimmers hoping to follow in their footsteps.
“These athletes are among the best in the world in their chosen events,” Mr Sutton said. “To have them here in Lake Macquarie, offering their advice and sharing their experiences, is a major coup for our city.”
Magnussen said he was looking forward to meeting local rising stars.
“My swimming career was fostered in a regional coastal town of NSW and I’m really excited for the opportunity to give back to country swimming in NSW,” he said. “I can’t wait for the opportunity to share my passion for swimming with the local community of Lake Macquarie.”
The clinic, on January 20, will also feature sessions with national swim team coach and physiotherapist Adam Kable and NSW Institute of Sport swimming physiologist Stephan Crowcroft. Book via www.lakemac.com.au/swim-with-the-stars.
