Ocean temps are holding steady at around 19 degrees, even though some strong N/E winds have tried to “roll over” the water and bring the cool green stuff to the surface.
Whiting catches are showing up everywhere as we move into summer, with good fish on most beaches, from Fingal through to Catho with Swansea channel also holding plenty of fish.
The key to success here is live bait with beach and tube worms and pink nippers the best, although some nice fish have been taken on live prawns caught at the moment during the prawn run.
Yes, that’s right, the prawn run will go for another couple of days until the moon starts to return. It has been a reasonable run but nothing to write home about – if you missed it the next one will be in a few weeks.
The odd trag are starting to show up off Newcastle and Swansea in around 30 metres of water, with small squire making a nuisance of themselves and not a lot of bigger fish among them. Best bet offshore is finish off a session with a flathead drift in the 40 metre mark.
On the Water this Week:
TEMPS: 19 degrees
Visibility: average
Moon: new moon
Tides: low, early and late
