The Novocastrian who lives between London and Australia is once again touring his Bach to the Bush solo recitals to Newcastle and Port Stephens in December and January.
“Despite performing and listening to Bach’s music many times each year, it’s always a deeply healing experience, one that takes the soul on a journey,” Albrecht said.
“The local venues and audiences of Port Stephens are wonderful and always make me feel at home.
“[While] having played at Woodville twice in the last four years, I would still consider it a rare treat for Port Stephens audiences to be able to enjoy live classical music, especially played on a 300 year old baroque cello from London.
“My concerts are about telling stories, sharing what I’ve learned, and giving people a small window of time to make peace with the mania of the world.”
During a Bach to the Bush recital, Albrecht performs two of Johann Sebastian Bach’s cello suites and other works for baroque cello.
This is interspersed with commentary.
Since graduating from Juilliard, New York, in 2014, Albrecht has become a passionate advocate for classical music touring in regional Australia.
He returns to Australia regularly from his home in London to play with groups such as Pinchgut Opera, the Australian Haydn Ensemble and Adelaide Baroque.
“I love returning to Australia each year to perform with Pinchgut Opera and other amazing groups, as well as to embark on regional tours,” Albrecht said.
“I’ve played at least 60 Bach to the Bush recitals over the last few years in all corners of the country.
“I’m from Newcastle, and my parents live at Duns Creek, so Woodville and Salamander Bay are obvious and beautiful places to perform while in the Hunter for Christmas.”
Albrecht will perform at the Adamstown Uniting Church at 3pm on December 22, Woodville School of Arts Hall on December 23 from 3pm and, for the first time, the Port Stephens Sailing and Aquatic Club in Soldiers Point from 11am on January 6.
