The start of 2019 has seen some very hot weather, which has been the perfect excuse for people to take advantage of our local beaches, our Lake Mac Swim Centres and the numerous swimming spots around the lake, just like the new-look Belmont Baths.

I had the pleasure of opening the Belmont Baths in December and so far it has had plenty of use. It is a lovely spot to cool off, so if you haven’t visited yet, I encourage you to pop over for a dip. The project has been a wonderful success. I’m also very excited to see the next stage of works begin at the site, which with NSW government funding, will see the construction of an amenities block with accessible change room and aquatic wheelchair storage, and landscaping.
The other popular spot for a nice day in the sun this summer has been our beautiful beaches. The great news is that by all reports the overall lifeguard rescue numbers this year are down from previous seasons.
If you are heading to the beach this summer, please remember to swim between the flags and always slip, slop, slap. We are blessed with some of the best natural coastlines, parks and waterways right in our own backyard, so no wonder many locals are choosing to staycation in the City.
