As mobility becomes impaired through age, illness or accident, stairs no longer suit and instead can become a barrier to access.
Five years ago, Chief Engineer Vern Cottee was making plans for his new home and decided to install a lift.
During his research, he came across the Residential Lift Company, established in 2004 by Tasmanian-based couple Peter and Rosemary van Emmerik.
Cottee was so inspired by their innovative lift designs, he flew to Hobart to meet the van Emmeriks, then became the company’s NSW-ACT distributor.
The Residential Lift Company (ResiLift) offers several Australian designed and manufactured options, including walker friendly and wheelchair models and dual entry designs.
All models use highly reliable Australian manufactured components All ResiLift models can be retrofitted into existing homes or designed into new two storey dwellings and are freestanding, meaning there’s no need for a lift shaft or significant works to modify house structure.
ResiLift is committed to providing affordable, compact lifts which comfortably meet Australian Standard and National Construction Code safety criteria.
“Two things make [the lifts] exceptional,” Cottee says. “First, because of Peter van Emmerik’s safety features, the lifts can be installed in open plan.
“Second, he’s kept all the primary safety features as analogue functions, which means they’re always activel.”
Cottee has trained Installers that ensure a lift can be installed anywere in NSW and ACT.
“The Lifts give freedom to those with mobility problems,” he said.
The Residential Lift Company’s work is now shared between retrofitting a ResiLift into an existing home or installing into a new home for both ageing and disabled clients.
If you think space is a problem in your home look for an area 1040mm wide by 800mm depth for the Mirage Lift NDIS funding may be available to assist with the cost of installing a wide-wheelchair lift, depending on a recipient’s plan.
Some clients over 65 years may be able to get assistance from Myagedcare For home owners, the numbers can add up, too.
The cost of installing a ResiLift is usually less than the cost of stamp duty clients would have paid if they moved house.
The Residential Lift Company specialises in the design manufacture and installation of small elevators for homes allowing you to travel between floors with maximum convenience and safety, and adds value to your home.
