McLean, 22, is the driving force behind the Newcastle-based, youth-focused theatre company, which formed in 2017.
The fledgling company has about 30 young actors, 14-25 years old, directors and playwrights associated with it.
So far, Bearfoot has produced and presented three original works: Take Me to Neverland, Do Your Parents Know You’re Straight? and I Hope It’s Not Raining in London.
The works have been well received.
“We have had so much support from the community who are excited about original work, and they have enjoyed the quality,” McLean said. “We haven’t had a bad review.”
A fourth work by debut playwright Tyler Atcheson will open in March. It’s the company’s first family friendly production.
Hermit Crabs and Meteors follows Eugene, whose life is turned on his head when a meteor crashes through his roof and a gaggle of strange visitors come knocking.
The production delivers positive lessons, including the importance of appreciating your friends, following your dreams and protecting the environment, especially creatures smaller than ourselves.
The work is directed by McLean, with assistance from Josh Hersee.
The cast features: Harry Lyddiard, Savannah Geddes, Annie McLoughlin, Phil McGrath and Allison Van Gaal.
Hermit Crabs and Meteors runs at The Royal Exchange, Bolton Street, Newcastle from the March 7-10.
