The Port Stephens Toyota 2019 Wildcard Trials will be staged at the popular beach on Saturday, February 2.
“The Surfest trials each year are a very important event for male and female surfers who are trying to make their mark on the WSL World Qualifying Tour,” Surfest organiser Warren Smith said.
“Past winners of the trials have always surfed exceptionally well in the main events, at times surpassing their wildest expectations.
“We are extremely grateful to Maitland and Port Stephens Toyota, who are a long time sponsor and supporter of this event.

“The 2019 wildcard trials are expected to include a high calibre of both male and female professional and emerging surfers from around the country.”
Trial winners will gain entry into the top men and women’s events at Surfest, due to be staged at Merewether Beach in March.
There is also a wildcard spot up for grabs in the Lake Mac City Pro Junior.
Cadets are also well catered for at the trials, with the number one seed contest jersey reserved for the trials’ winners in three divisions of the Sanbah Cup.
There is no shortage of hopefuls from Port Stephens lined up to contest the Birubi Beach wildcard trials.

Josh Stretton and Mike Clayton-Brown will compete in the open men’s and pro junior divisions while Elle Clayton-Brown and Jasmine Sampson will square-off in the open women’s competition.
Isaac Sullivan will be leading the charge for the number one seed spot for the boy’s 16 years and under division while Jimmi Hill will wear the contest singlet for the boy’s 14 years’ competition of the Sanbah Cup.
Port Stephens Mayor Ryan Palmer said there would be plenty of action happening out of the water during the trials, with a smorgasbord of food and entertainment options available for residents and visitors.
“We’re so excited to once again host the Surfest Wildcard Trials... welcoming hundreds to our beautiful Birubi Beach,” Cr Palmer said.

“This year, we’ll be adding to the excitement with Street Food Social offering the region’s best food trucks, markets and entertainment overlooking the waves for all to enjoy.
“This is one in a number of surfing events we have planned in Port Stephens in 2019, showcasing our stunning coastline and legendary surf breaks to visitors right across Australia and the world.
“Building on last year’s success, we expect this year’s events to be even bigger and better – bringing more local surfers, family, friends and visitors to experience the beauty of Port Stephens.”
The trials start at 7am. Finals will be in the water from 2pm.
