Last weekend saw the game fishos getting amongst it off Swansea in the big fish bonanza with some nice captures and plenty of tagged and released fish.
A great blue marlin of 266kg was weighed which was taken on a 37kg line while a tiger shark at 295kg was hooked on a 15kg line.
A number of short-billed spear fish were tagged – one weighed in at 24kg and some nice dolphin fish up to 17kg were also caught.
Plenty of whiting on our beaches and in the estuaries, with the best catches being taken on live worms and pink nippers, however a lot of anglers are targeting them with small surface lures with some success.
Squid continue to build in numbers in the lake but so do the reports of people taking more than they should. With a daily bag limit of 20 squid there should be no reason to take more than this as 20 is very generous.
Fishing the sand patches near reefs will produce bigger fish with areas such as one mile up the bay and the gravel off Stockton and Newcastle are good places to start.
