Newcastle act the Heroes were on stage, on September 19, 1979, mid-song, when things turned ugly. Police demanded the night end at 10pm and wanted people to leave the hotel.
As people began to disperse the crowd turned on police. About 4000 people began to riot, they overturned and set fire to police cars.
The riot gained international television coverage.
Now, 40 years later the Heroes will “pull the pin with a salute to the sound that defined an era in Newwy rock, and to the fans who came along for the ride.”
Heroes, will call it a day with a final show and “last supper” at Lizotte’s. The event will be held on September 19.
