Mullet are getting ready for their annual spawning run up and down the coast and this will kick start many other species into action, especially on our beaches and offshore.
We should see a run of bream and jew on the beaches and inshore reefs with the former already showing up on the reefs. Some reasonable catches have turned up in the 15 to 20m reefs off Redhead and Merewether areas.
We fished the fruit shed reef off Redhead on Saturday afternoon and while the undersized squire made a nuisance of themselves, we were able to bag around 8 nice bream to 1kg with a few small tailor mixed in.
Jew fish are also being taken in good numbers in the lake as shown RSL Fishing Club member David Sykes showing off a nice one taken on fresh squid on Friday night.
This weekend will see the first of three interclub events between Redhead Bowling Club, Pelican RSL and Swansea RSL will host the first event. If last year is anything to go by, we should see some great catches weighed in. All members and prospective members are welcome, with weigh in around 2pm Sunday.
