The run of southerlies lately has also kept the water temperatures around 20-21 degrees.

The lake is a option again with solid catches of jewfish all week being reported along with good catches of bream in the shallows. I've also heard of some good catches of squid in the lake which would account for the jew bite. Swansea RSL Fishing Club guru, David Sykes, set the mark to beat this year with a 7kg jew caught last week. Mick Gilmour also took a great jew of around 8kg last week on lures.

Whiting and bream are still being taken on most local beaches, however the drops in water temps has shut the bites down at times. Offshore best options again are the sand flathead with sand edges around reefs in the 30 - 40m range the best way to avoid all the small spikey flathead. 

Small kingfish have been showing up in large numbers around headlands, with most fish under the legal size. The bonito have slowed up a lot but we should see a rise in the number of tailor showing up as we approach Easter. Picture this week is of Richard Thomas showing one of many unusual visitors which turn up in our lake this time of year, which is a big eye trevally of around 2kg.
