Junior club president Chris Grieve said the Waratahs were hopeful of entering under-13, 15 and 17 teams in the competition, organised by Hunter Junior Rugby Union, which starts on Saturday, May 18.
"The new competition is an exciting opportunity for young girls to develop their skills in rugby while playing for a family-friendly club," Grieve said.
"There is an increasing interest in women and girls rugby and the Waratahs already has a Women's academy up and running to help both junior and senior female players.
"The academy is seen as a pathway for young female rugby players to advance from junior rugby to senior rugby where the club's Women's team is undefeated minor and major premiers."
The academy trains at Waratah Oval each Tuesday from 5pm and provides.
Sessions provide: strength and conditioning training, skills training in 10-a-side rugby (as compared to normal 15-a-side rugby), coaching by experienced players such as Australian and Super W Rugby player Katrina Barker and NSW Country player Tahlia Goldsmith and a pathway for the Waratahs juniors to enter teams in various competitions that cater for the development of the young players.
Young girls wishing to try a game of rugby in the May competition are invited to contact the Waratahs by phoning Grieve on 0434 615 488.
