Adopt a dog with Dog Rescue Newcastle: April 25

Dog Rescue Newcastle and The Star have partnered to provide a weekly column of some of the area's most eligible K9s in need of a home. Meet this week's pooches:

Nugget: 11 years, fox terrier

Meet your new best friend.

Nugget is a very handsome 11-year-old fox terrier.

He came into Dog Rescue Newcastle from very loving owners who sadly were not able to take him with them when they were moving.

Nugget is a happy man who loves to be around you. He is a very refined gentleman who is content as long as he is near his people.

Nugget loves his food and is mostly toilet trained though he hasn't mastered the doggy door as yet.

HANDSOME: Nugget's few grey whiskers give away his age but nothing else about him would tell you that he is a bit older.

HANDSOME: Nugget's few grey whiskers give away his age but nothing else about him would tell you that he is a bit older.

He loves his walks but can pull on his lead. It is important that he has a harness on as he can slip out of the collar and lead.

It is also important to know that although he has a short smooth coat, he is a shedder and will still need regular grooming.

Nugget is an intelligent boy who is quick to learn.

His few grey whiskers give away his age but nothing else about him would tell you that he is an older boy.

Nugget has also quickly become accustomed to the inside life.

He is particularly fond of the bed where he can snuggle.

He is energetic, happy, loving and a real charmer.

Tarzan: 6 months American Staffy X boxer

A friendly and playful boy Tarzan is a large 6-month-old American Staffy-cross-boxer and is one relaxed young guy.

He is also quite the ladies man thanks to his cheeky smile.

He came into care in poor condition with his sister Jane but has flourished into a happy young dog who just loves being around people.

Tarzan is great with other dogs but being a young pup needs to improve his basic training, which shouldn't be an issue given he is highly food motivated.

He has not been tested with smaller dogs or cats.

CHILL: Tarzan is quite the ladies man thanks to his cheeky smile.

Tarzan's perfect home would be an active family or couple willing to give him some love and affection of his own.

Having said that a fur brother or sister would be good but a meet and greet is essential.

We can offer a foster to adopt program if that is needed but also additional support and training to make sure Tarzan fits right into his new home.
