The solo show Defaced will showcase Power's most recent body of work.
Power has exhibited regularly in both solo and group projects within the Hunter, Sydney and Perth. The work in this show examines the process and the inherent aesthetic of the defaced image.
Through applying thick layers of oil paint the image or form is both added to and erased. Other works start on a pristine white canvas or paper and are worked over with broad swipes of colour and Power's arsenal of marks and symbols in a fervent endeavour to 'deface' the surface.
In 2009 Liam Power was awarded the inaugural Ford Grant, an award for excellence given to TAFE graduates at the Newcastle Art school, which is generously sponsored by Chris and Helen Ford.
The exhibition will be held from June 28 to July 7. An official opening will be held on June 29 from 3pm.
