Organisers are promoting it as the 'hottest day in Newcastle' and there could be an element of truth to the claim when Newcastle Chilli Festival kicks into gear later this month.
The event is being coordinated by Tangerine Events at The Station on Sunday, July 28 and will include a chilli eating competition with Newcastle businesses encouraged to get involved by nominating a work colleague or friend.
Entry to the competition is $200 with a selection of prizes up for grabs.
All proceeds will be going to Soul Café Newcastle which provides hundreds of free meals per week to disadvantaged members of the community - many of whom are homeless, have a mental illness, substance abuse issue or live in poverty.
It is hoped that funds raised from the day will go towards helping Soul Cafe reach its fundraising goal of $165,000.
