Swifts and Lightning star in Super Netball

The top four teams were involved in two matches a few hours apart at Sydney's Quaycentre on Saturday, with the higher placed side prevailing in both fixtures.

In the early game, second placed Sunshine Coast shaded the fourth placed Giants 60-56.

The win briefly lifted Lightning to top spot over Swifts, who clawed it back a few hours later with a 57-51 victory over the third-placed Melbourne Vixens.

Lightning's win on Saturday secured the two-time defending champions a finals spot, something Swifts did last week.

"We've still got a couple of weeks to go (before finals). In regards to trying to get that connection we're still a wee bit off," Taurua told AAP.

"But pleasing that we are heading the right way and we are getting the wins on the scoreboard."

Swifts moved four clear of Lightning and ten ahead of the Vixens, with just two rounds left, meaning they will be hard to knock out of a top two spot.

"We've worked too hard all year to let that go and we don't want to come third or fourth," Swifts' coach Briony Akle said

Giants coach Julie Fitzgerald wasn't discouraged by her team's defeat and said the performance proved they could compete against the top teams.

"It was a high pressure match and I'm actually really pleased with the improvement that we've shown from the first round to the second round," Fitzgerald said.

The two bonus points Giants picked up stretched to six points their buffer over the fifth-placed Magpies, who play West Coast Fever in Perth on Monday.

In that game, Magpies and former Fever shooter Natalie Medhurst will return to Perth for the first time since she was released by the club after last season.

"I think it will be a little bit overwhelming to be honest. The support I've received from all my time there and since leaving has been phenomenal," Medhurst said.

In Sunday's only game, Maria Folau scored 35 goals as Adelaide Thunderbirds scored a 71-59 away victory over the winless Queensland Firebirds.
