Known as an 'E-Transit Hub', this charging station is the first we're rolling out across the city and includes a 44kW solar car park cover, three EV chargers and more than 120kWh of battery storage, which is enough to power an average Newcastle home for nearly nine days.
With electric vehicle ownership on the rise across Newcastle, this charging hub lets residents and visitors know that Newcastle is an electric vehicle-friendly city.
What's even better is that it will also provide 100 per cent renewable electricity to supply all of No.2 Sportsground.
Through our own Smart City Strategy, and with the help of the federal government's $5 million Smart Cities and Suburbs Program grant, No. 2 Sportsground is now a completely self-sustaining site capable not only of charging electric vehicles but also powering the sportsground lights and other facilities.
Our commitment to sustainability at No.2 Sportsground is just the first location in a roll-out of EV charging stations across the city, with another two sites to be delivered in the City next year. We're also planning an expansion of the public EV network to other suburbs in the future.
Newcastle is moving towards a smarter, more sustainable future and a project such as this is just one way of ensuring as many people as possible can join us for the ride.
