The Cardiff girl's portrait of her family's sponsored child from Indonesia, whose name is Pretty, caught the eye of charity Compassion Australia which commissioned Honor's artwork as the prize in a competition.

"Pretty is 7 years old and lives in Indonesia," Honor, now aged 9, said.

"I painted Pretty because I thought she might like a painting of herself.

"Pretty likes to do drawings just like me."

The young Cardiff artist, who began painting when she was 7 years old, will now paint a portrait of the child that the Compassion Australia competition winner sponsors.

"I like painting because it's fun," Honor said. "I like to paint famous people the most. I've painted the Queen, but my favourite painting was Simon Cowell, because I got some new paints and nice paper."

Honor, whose paintings are described as 'abstract', is also generously donating half of her artist's fee to Compassion Australia to help more children living in poverty.

"I think Australian kids should sponsor other kids so that they can go to school, have medicine when they're sick and have shoes-some kids don't have shoes," Honor said.

Compassion Australia chief executive officer Tim Hanna said the charity is "extremely grateful" for supporters like Honor who use their gifts to raise funds and awareness for vulnerable children.

"It's fantastic seeing an eight year old with a heart for children living in poverty," he said.

"My hope is that Honor's art will inspire others to consider how they, too, can make a difference."

Compassion is an international child development charity with more than 60 years' experience working with some of the world's poorest children.

At present, two million children attend Compassion's church-based program centres in 25 developing countries.
