Eight players, including debutant Alistair Rye, found the back of the net for the Northstars in their final game of the regular season against the last-placed Adrenaline. Eleven goals were scored in the second period alone.
Newcastle also accounted for the Mustangs at Hunter Ice Skating Stadium just 24 hours earlier, triumphing 3-2 after splitting the deadlock in overtime and ending the Melbourne side's hopes of making the play-offs.
The Northstars, who locked up second spot on the Australian Ice Hockey League ladder across the weekend, now meet third-placed Perth Thunder in Saturday's semi.
While not getting carried away with the results, Newcastle coach John Kennedy Jnr said the "confidence" gained from finishing the regular rounds in style wouldn't go astray.
"Winning heals everything, gives you that boost of confidence and confidence is invaluable," Kennedy said.
"Obviously the competition is going to be way higher, more like the Mustangs [from Saturday], but we're ready for those small margin games.
"We've played them throughout the year and been successful in them. It [the big win] is good for team morale and it's good going into this week of practice so we'll take it."
Kennedy said the Northstars we're all "stoked' for rookie Rye to score in his second national league game.
His goal came in a quieter third term alongside the completion of doubles for both Sammy Banga, named the team's MVP for 2019 last Wednesday, and Richie Tesarik. Adelaide also netted twice in that time.
Newcastle's Luke Simpson landed a hat-trick by himself in a high-scoring period two. Francis Drolet picked up a brace.
Trey Phillips, Hamish Powell, Jayden Ryan, Banga and Tesarik also made the list.
Adelaide opened their account in the second period. Ryan started off proceedings in the first term.
"It's easy for players to get selfish and start worrying about stats, but I thought we still had plenty of offensive zone entries and we're pushing the puck around," Kennedy said.
Banga scored the match winner against the Mustangs on Saturday.
Drolet and skipper Bert Malloy converted chances in the third period.
In the other semi at Warners Bay on Saturday, minor premiers and defending champions the Canberra Brave will take on the fourth-placed Sydney Bears.
Winners clash in the 2019 decider at the same venue on Sunday from 3.30pm.
SEMI-FINALS: Canberra Brave v Sydney Bears (3pm); Newcastle Northstars v Perth Thunder (7pm).
