That's why we're investing more than ever before into our network of roads, community buildings, parks and reserves.
Preliminary figures show that 2018/19 was another record year for our capital works program, with $91.6 million spent delivering major infrastructure upgrades and key projects across the entire city.
On the back of community consultation, we have invested millions to add new playgrounds for families, upgrade aged community facilities and continue our renewal of local business centres to create vibrant and active public spaces.
We've continued work on those priority projects you wanted us to complete, including our ongoing enhancement of the city's "green heart", Blackbutt Reserve, where we installed a fantastic new adventure playground at Richley Reserve inspired by the natural bushland.
Coastal revitalisation also remains a focus with the construction of the South Stockton Active Hub, which provides another option to be active in the outdoors, while a series of renewal projects including road and drainage rehabilitation, pedestrian crossing upgrades and road widening, provide essential infrastructure upgrades that will improve Newcastle for current and future generations.
Our capital investment has increased by more than 40 per cent during the past four years as we continue to balance infrastructure renewal with revitalisation projects.
The results for 2018/19 are testament to our employees who have put in another mammoth effort to deliver a record amount of work in improving the city.
They are also a reflection of our commitment to meeting the community expectations that come with sustained growth and we look forward to continuing to deliver for the people of Newcastle.
