Each year, they attract tens of thousands of people into our city centre, in a celebration of culture and the legacy of the Returned Servicemen and Women respectively.
I'm so pleased to say that we have now locked in our support for these two flagship community events, with sponsorships worth almost $350,000 over three years.
We are proud to have been a founding sponsor of the Newcastle Writers Festival, which since its inception in 2013 has grown into a renowned three-day literary event with a strong community focus, offering more than 40 per cent of its program free to the public.
Under the terms of the agreement, we will provide $40,000 per annum in value-in-kind and cash to the Newcastle Writers Festival during 2020, 2021 and 2022.
This will ensure that almost all the festival's events are held in the city's cultural facilities.
The City of Newcastle will also continue its support of the region's Anzac Day events.
This sponsorship agreement will provide $75,000 in-kind and cash per annum to the RSL Sub-branch.
This will support their delivery of the Anzac Day dawn service, the Anzac Day march and a United Service of Remembrance at Civic Park for three years from 2020.
