At Newcastle Museum on Thursday, October 10, a special edition Newcastle Monopoly was launched by City of Newcastle Lord Mayor Nuatali Nelmes, Mr Monopoly and Winning Moves, the global licensee of Monopoly publisher Hasbro that manufactures custom regional editions of the board game.
"Newcastle is an iconic city so it's only fitting we have our very own Monopoly board game to celebrate our spectacular built and natural attractions," Cr Nelmes said.
"We're certainly spoilt for choice for board game worthy locations to feature, from our renowned beaches to locations like Newcastle Museum, Blackbutt Reserve, and Fort Scratchley, which are all up for grabs for players.
"I'm thrilled our city now has its very own version of Monopoly and know it will be embraced by Novocastrians young and old. It's wonderful to think people will create memories playing the game based on our very own city.
"It's the perfect family friendly gift for Christmas or for those looking for something truly unique. It's also sure to prove popular with visitors to the city."
There is no Mayfair or Pall Mall in Newcastle Monopoly.
The board features Newcastle themes and locations including Newcastle, Bar and Merewether beaches; King Edward Park; Blackbutt Reserve; Fort Scratchley; Newcastle Ocean Baths; Darby Street and Hunter Street.
The board also showcases local businesses. It is understood that businesses were asked to provide sponsorship in exchange for inclusion.
Businesses featured on the board include Greater Bank, Westfield Kotara, McDonald Jones Stadium, Newcastle Airport, Timezone, Sand Dune Adventures, Hit 106.9, Triple M, Hunter Valley Gardens, Newcastle Show, Surfest, Customs House, Hope Estate, Newcastle Grammar School, The Lucky Hotel, Beyond Ballooning and Newcastle Museum.

Winning Moves' custom games manager Dale Hackett said pre-orders of the Newcastle edition had been so strong the company has started a second print run.
"The only other city that has happened with was Melbourne," Mr Hackett said.
"We've only done major capital cities, so we weren't expecting this from Newcastle.
"We've had pre-orders come in from all over the globe."
Monopoly first hit the shelves in 1935 and since then has secured its spot in pop culture and people's homes as a best-loved game.
Newcastle Monopoly costs $59.99 and is available to purchase at Newcastle Museum, Newcastle Visitor Information Centre, The Games Shop, Timezone and most major retailers including Big W.
The public is being invited to get up close and personal with the new game and Mr Monopoly at Westfield Kotara on October 13 and 14 from 10am to 2pm.
