To support those who may be struggling to cope following a bereavement, Newcastle Memorial Park will host a seminar with author, educator and trainer Doris Zagdanski to offer insights and advice on coping with grief, especially at Christmas time.
The event will be held at the memorial park's North Chapel in Beresfield on December 17 at 10am.
For the past 30 years Doris has established a career in the funeral industry, writing and delivering training programs that help people dealing with grief, whilst also working with families as a funeral director. Doris has spent many years assisting grieving people - she listens to their stories, hears their pain and helps them understand their feelings.
"We're proud to host an incredibly knowledgeable speaker to talk about such an important issue around Christmas time. We hope that our community will find the seminar helpful and that they will take away valuable skills to support them through grief and even allow them to find joy in remembering the good times spent with their loved ones," says Garry Bellenger, Location Manager, Newcastle Memorial Park.
The seminar has been designed to remove the stigma around death and loss, helping attendees understand what 'normal' grief is and learning why family members all grieve differently. It will also offer ideas to help people cope not just at Christmas, but at other significant days and throughout the year.
"Funeral directors have a role in providing a final connection to a family member or friend who is no longer with us. We aim to help celebrate their lives of those that are put into our care so that they can have a final farewell with the people closest to them. Events like this are a continuation of our care for families through into their daily lives," added Mr Bellenger said.
Those interested are encouraged to register interest by emailing or calling Garry Bellenger, Location Manager, Newcastle Memorial Park, by Friday, December 13 at garry.bellenger@newcastlecrem.com.au or 4944 6000.
