This week we are in for a treat, with the Lake Mac Festival returning to our city in what will be a celebration that will stretch from one side of the lake to the other. Seeing people out an about at our events who are enjoying a great day is something I just love to see, and I think we are in for a whole lot of fun this weekend.

The celebration will begin on Saturday, January 25, in Thomas H. Halton Park at Croudace Bay with a free breakfast run by community groups and a family fun morning of music and entertainment. Then the fun will ramp up in the evening with four events coming to life at Wangi Wangi, Rathmines, Pelican and Swansea. Each site will have its own entertainment that will be topped off with a fireworks display over the water at 9pm, which will be visible from each location.
Then on Sunday morning I will have the privilege of welcoming more than 90 people who will become Australian citizens at a citizenship ceremony at council's administration building. It's always one of my highlights for the year. It's a special time for these residents as they become Aussies and a humbling experience for me.
From 3pm on Sunday, come and join me in at the Sunday Sessions event in Speers Point Park. It's a beautiful setting, so why not bring along a picnic and pull up a chair and relax away the evening with some great music.
We have a great community and events like this weekend are all about activating our local communities, bringing people together and igniting our night-time economy. Visit lakemac.com.au/LakeMacFestival for details.
Lake Mac Awards
The selection panel for this year's Lake Mac Awards has been extremely impressed with the quality and diversity of nominations for 2020.
The Lake Mac Awards celebrate the people and groups that make our city such a creative, active and inclusive place. It's always an honour to meet them and shine a light on the wonderful work they do. The awards will be held from 6.30pm on Saturday, February 8, at Swansea RSL. It's always a fantastic night, not just for nominees and their families, but for anyone passionate about their community and the people who make it special.
