Daniel Collins finished just short of his goal of a top 10 finish on the national ironman series following the last round on Sunday at North Cronulla.
The Redhead ironman, the Hunter's only representative on the elite circuit, was 12th on adjusted standings heading into the fifth and final round and he slipped one spot to 13th with the result. The top four efforts from each athlete counted towards totals on the 20-man series.
Manly's Kendrick Louis was fourth in North Cronulla's eliminator format to secure the series title.
Collins sprinted and lunged late to finish 14th and narrowly avoid elimination in the first of three races on Sunday. Another six ironman were eliminated at the end of the next race and Collins was unable to repeat his effort, finishing 11th and bowing out despite making up ground in the finishing swim leg.
