The 17-year-old Macquarie Hunter Athletics Club sprinter was amongst 24 talented Indigenous athletes from across Australia to attend the Raise the Bar program in Melbourne last week which involved training with leading coaches, visiting the Collingwood Football Club and cooking with Coles Masterchef Michael Weldon.

Leroy, whose family is Gadigal and Awabakal, said the experience has inspired him to aim for an Olympic Games after having already excelled at state and national championships last year.

"Raise the Bar was an amazing experience and I learnt so much about athletics and career pathways," he said.

"It was great to meet Australian athletes like Kyle Vander Kuyp, Linden Hall and Jemima Montag.

"I also really liked going to the Rally for Relief tennis at Melbourne Park and visiting Collingwood Football Club."

Leroy had a successful 2019 on the track.

In March he won a NSW state championship when he came first in the under-17 men's 200 metre sprint.

He place second in the under-17 men's 100m at the same event.

At the Australian All School Championships held in Perth in December, Leroy placed second in the under-18 200m and fourth in the under-18 100m.

The Raise the Bar program is aimed at inspiring young Indigenous athletes to pursue their dreams both on and off the track.

Vander Kuyp, a dual Olympian and Raise the Bar mentor, said the program provides invaluable support to young Indigenous Australians looking to pursue a career on and off the track.

"Raise the Bar not only helps Indigenous Australians to become better athletes, but it equips them with skills to pursue tertiary studies and gain employment," he said.

"The skills they learnt with partners like Coles and the University of Melbourne will help them to study at university or get a job during or after their athletics careers."
