The project, led by Reverend Greg Colby and Marilyn Deas, is based on the principles and ethics of permaculture. The pair will offer free workshops on the method as a way of engaging with the wider community.
A community food cupboard has also been attached to the gardens to provide non-perishable food and toiletries to those in need. The garden project has been supported with donations of materials by Port Hunter Conveyors and the community and a Lake Macquarie City Council community sustainability grant.
Members of the community are invited to the official opening on March 29 at 11am. There will be activities for the family and a free soup and damper made from pumpkins harvested from the garden. Register your attendance with Mrs Deas on 0408 431 737.
