Police have captured a fugitive child sex offender after he was caught hiding out in a store room underneath a Wollongong takeaway store.

Illawarra man Simon Wilhelm, whose name is listed on the NSW Child Protection Register, was wanted on an outstanding arrest warrant for child sex offences.
Police had appealed for public help to find him on Wednesday, saying he had been last spotted in the Figtree/Unanderra area in April.
Wilhelm, 45, had not made it far by the time he was caught.
Acing on information from the public, police found him about 4pm Wednesday trying to hide in a storeroom underneath an unnamed Crown St takeaway store.
He was arrested and taken to Wollongong Police Station, where he was charged.
Wilhelm was refused bail and was set to appear in Wollongong Local Court on Thursday.
Police thanked the public and media for their assistance finding the fugitive.
