Police are investigating two recent but unrelated stabbings in Bendigo, one of which left the victim "very lucky to be alive".
A 29-year-old man was stabbed multiple times in the neck, face, head and arm at a Kennington car wash on the morning of July 22.
Detective Sergeant Steve Rainey, from Bendigo's Crime Investigation Unit, said it was believed the man was attacked in the car.
The man was dropped a short distance away in Lowndes Street, and was then taken to hospital.
"He's sustained some fairly serious injuries, and probably very lucky to be alive," Detective Sergeant Rainey said.
"Serious puncture wounds to the face and the neck... and a significant cut to the top of his head, as well as a stab wound in the arm."
The victim got into a red Holden station wagon bearing South Australian plates.
Detective Sergeant Rainey said it was believed the victim and his attacker were probably known to each other.
On Tuesday at the Prince of Wales Showgrounds a worker noticed a man lying on the ground at the back of the site.
"As he's approached that young man and tried to offer some assistance to him, [the young man] has jumped up, become aggressive and struck out at the Good Samaritan trying to assist him," Detective Sergeant Rainey said.
"He just thought he'd got punched, and it was after he'd run he realised that he'd actually got a small puncture wound, from a stab.
"Not a serious injury, it's a minor injury, as far as a stabbing wound would go, but still a very significant incident that happened."
The attacker was seen running from the rear of the showgrounds, near the Long Gully Trail, towards Holdsworth Road.
He was described as being Caucasian, aged in his 20s and about 177 centimetres tall. He was wearing a black cap, a black hoodie and a grey face mask.
Police hope anyone with information about either of the two incidents will come forward.
Detective Sergeant Rainey said police would be very interested to speak to anybody who could provide information about who was in the station wagon involved in the first incident.
Police also ask that anyone with dash cam footage or CCTV footage from the areas where the two incidents took place to come forward.
People with information can contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report at online.
