Marinkovich will continue to coach the Fever until the end of the 2021 season before moving fulltime into Diamonds' duties in the lead-up to the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham and 2023 Netball World Cup in South Africa.

A new mum, Marinkovich has been coach of the Fever since 2015 after playing for them until 2009.

On the international stage the 39-year-old has most recently been a specialist centre court coach of the Australian development squad and Australian Fast5 head coach.

She beat the likes of Melbourne Vixens coach Simone McKinnis and ex-Australia star Vicki Wilson, who has most recently coach Fiji, for the coveted position.

"This is something I have been working towards my entire professional life and I'm absolutely honoured and humbled that Netball Australia have granted me the opportunity to lead the world's best netball team," Marinkovich said in a statement.

"I am acutely aware of the expectations, the history and responsibility of taking on such a position and I am very much looking forward to growing the success of the Diamonds program."

Marinkovich replaces Lisa Alexander, who finished up in March after more than eight years in the role after her contract was not renewed.

She steps into big shoes, with Alexander the most-capped Australia coach (102) and with an impressive 81 per cent winning record.

Alexander oversaw gold medal-winning campaigns at the 2014 Commonwealth Games and 2015 Netball World Cup but silver medals at the 2018 Commonwealth Games and last year's World Cup contributed to her downfall.

The Diamonds lost their world title to New Zealand by a goal last July, although still maintained their No.1 ranking.

A four-Test Constellation Cup between Australia and the Silver Ferns has been scheduled after the completion of the Super Netball season, pending travel being allowed between the two countries.
