Leeds would have gone third with a win but Raul Jimenez's 70th-minute goal won it for the visitors to put them sixth.

In the night's other game, Burnley moved off the bottom with a 0-0 draw at West Brom, the first goalless draw of the Premier League season.

Leeds were the better side in the first half but couldn't make their dominance count and Wolves took advantage in the second half.

Romain Saiss thought he had given Wolves the lead when he hammered the ball home on 53 minutes but it was ruled out by VAR, which ruled Daniel Podence was offside in the build-up.

But Wolves got their goal soon after, albeit with a big touch of fortune.

Jimenez's left-foot shot looked like it would be easily saved by Leeds goalkeeper Illan Meslier but it went in off Kalvin Phillips.

Jimenez said he was delighted to get an important goal, however scrappy it was.

"It's difficult to score against this kind of team, they press very well," he said. "Sometimes you need fortune to score, it's all about persistence."

"After losing two in a row now we win two in a row, it gives us a lot of confidence."

Leeds manager Marcelo Bielsa rued his side's missed opportunities.

"In the first half we should have established a difference, in the second half it was more even," he said.

"We had the sensation that we could unbalance them. We created enough opportunities to establish a lead.

"I don't think they were better than us but they neutralised our game better. The game was very hard, very physical and there was a lot of interruptions."

At West Brom, Karlan Grant had a goal ruled for offside for the hosts but Chris Wood headed onto the crossbar for Burnley and Ashley Barnes went close to winning it for the visitors.

The goalless draw was the first in 47 games this season, but the point lifted Burnley to 18th, above Sheffield United and Fulham on goal difference, one point and one place behind West Brom.

"I spoke to the team before the game about form," Burnley manager Sean Dyche said.

"We looked more like us. We had very good chances. West Brom had one chance towards the end and you wonder: 'Should we have won the game?'"

West Brom manager Slaven Bilic said he felt his side deserved at least a point.

"We gave everything," he said. "We created a few chances - more than enough to score.

"They also had a couple, to be fair. A draw was probably a fair result. It's a clean sheet and a point.

"Let's be positive and build on this in a positive way. (But) if we want to stay up then we have to win these types of games."
