Mr MacDonald is encouraging applications to be made for the youth council, and explained the roles on the board would include advising the state government on “issues of importance to young people” as well as “evaluating youth-related policies”.
He also said that the council gives a great platform for local youth in the Hunter and Central Coast areas to “represent their views on state policies and programs”, specifically those affecting young people in the region.
“I encourage all local young people to apply for the opportunity to represent our community on the 2019 YAC,” Mr MacDonald said.
“In July I joined several young community members in Salt Ash as part of the Youth Strategy consultations and it was a great forum to take on board honest and open feedback.”
“The NSW Youth Advisory Council is another avenue that the NSW Liberal National Government is consulting with youth right across NSW.”
Ray Williams, the minister responsible for youth in the state government, said all twelve members would be brought in from “diverse locations, backgrounds and life experiences”.
“We aim to secure a range of talented young people from across NSW who reflect our diverse population,” Mr Williams said.
“The feedback received from the Council plays an important role in assisting the NSW Government to develop effective policies and programs for young people.”
Council membership is open to all state residents between the ages of 12 and 24. Applications close on September 30.
